RACE

Hi guys,

First of all let me thank all of you that participated in BUDS and SUDS for making this the most successful dry slope season that Edinburgh has had in recent years. I would like to start out this message by giving you a brief recount of the performances given by your team members in the last couple of weeks.

SUDS highlights from the team include a dominating performance from Dave Harrison who won the men’s GS as well as the men’s individual dual slalom, Nicola Ogilvie who came 3rd in the women’s GS as well as the individual slalom, and Holly Aird who won the women’s board GS as well as the women’s dual slalom. Strong performances were also delivered by the first team who won the team dual slalom and the board dual slalom team which placed 3rd earning their spot on the podium after beating a dominant Napier team. The fact that there was only one point separating us from Napier is a testament to the importance of the hard work and dedication from every member of the team.

BUDS was a much more hotly competed affair, and the increased competition made it harder for Edinburgh to dominate. The snowboard team struggled to find pace on Friday, with Holly Aird uncharacteristically falling during her run and failing to qualify on the Ladies side, Joe Rosario did complete his run and managed to qualify for the Saturday doardercross. The board duals team did put a strong performance and their efforts were rewarded with a run all the way to the quarterfinals.
On the ski side, Friday saw a brilliant performance by the gents, with Ross Bannon, James Filsell and Dave Harrison all qualifying in the top 30, the standout being Dave Harrison who held the top of slalom standings coming out of the first run, his second run however failed to match the efforts of a dominant Newcastle team and he finished a very respectable fifth. The ladies struggled in the first run and with several failing to finish the race, Laura Swayne did however manage to make it into the second round, but failed to complete her second run. Saturday saw all the racers gingerly start their day following the previous nights entertainment in City. The morning saw several spirited efforts by the ladies despite the driving rain. The Gents followed suit with strong showings topped by a splendid run by Dave Harrison which saw him finish in second place, having held the lead for most of the race. The dual slalom was as competitive as ever, with the
first team having a superb run to eventually finish third.

Top Freshers honors for the dry slope season go to James Filsell and Nicola Ogilvie and overall award goes to Dave Harrison and Laura Swayne. Top Boarder awards go to Holly Aird.

Cheers and thanks again for all your effort,

Simon Colvin
EUSSC Race Captain

Freestyle

So BUDS has been and gone, if you missed it, well, you missed out majorly, especially the epic  impromptu raving in the middle of the slope infront of the redbull DJ truck!  However good teh partying was though, it's still all about the competing.  With the competition increasing dramatically compared to last year (Stylish corked 9's and 10's being thrown left right and centre) it proved extremely hard to even make it into the finals!  Luckily though Charlotte managed to impress and make it through in both the slopestyle and big air events!  Not only that but she also came second in both as well.  Special mention to Barney and Andy who both decided to give a frontflip a go fo rthe first time - luckily they both managed to and didn't end up injured.  Lastly I'd like to wish tom a speedy recovery after he damaged his ligaments in his knee.

SCANDAL!

So after a suitably messy weekend where every naughty little EUSSCer was seen to be misbehaving, this Scandal writer has decided that the prize goes to the man with the best equipment in town, Tom Newman, and Torty 'cracking thighs' Lee who were spotted snogging in City on Friday night, despite Tom being on crutches due to some sort of badass injury. This didn't seem to stop Torty who still managed to pin him up against a wall and have her wicked way with him. Lucky Tom.....

In other scandal news it appears John Mellor likes to slip the tongue in during a good old fashioned game of sexual chicken which has previously been regarded as bad form. Ladies, has John ever done this to you? Email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
